At Recursion, we combine experimental biology, chemistry, automation and artificial intelligence to quickly and efficiently identify treatments for diseases. We generate a wide variety of data across different biological and chemical domains, and build models off of that data. Reporting to the Director of Engineering for this group, the Senior IT Engineer will work to provide first-in-class capabilities and infrastructure that accelerate and enable machine learning across the business.

The Impact You'll Make

  • Requirements Elicitation: Collaborate with stakeholders across the organization to understand and document the functional, non-functional, and operational requirements that underpin our Enterprise Applications. This involves translating business needs into technical specifications, ensuring that the applications we deploy align seamlessly with Recursion's objectives.
  • Proof of Concept Leadership: Spearhead the evaluation of emerging technologies and vendor solutions through hands-on proof-of-concept exercises. Your expertise will be instrumental in identifying the optimal technology fit for Recursion, balancing factors such as capability, scalability, security, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Full Application Lifecycle Management: Take ownership of the entire application lifecycle for our Enterprise and Departmental Applications, spanning ERP, HRIS, Finance, IT Service Management, IT GRC, Clinical Development Apps, and more. This encompasses requirements gathering, design, configuration, implementation, security hardening, operationalization to IT Operations, and proactive maintenance to ensure optimal performance and availability.
  • API and Integration Management: Manage and oversee the complex environment of API and application integrations, both internally and with external partners. This involves developing strong integration architectures, supervising data flows, and guaranteeing smooth compatibility between different systems..
  • Performance Optimization and SLA Adherence: Drive continuous performance improvements across our application portfolio, ensuring that uptime and response times consistently meet or exceed defined Service Level Agreements (SLAs). Collaborate effectively with colleagues across departments to swiftly diagnose and resolve issues that impact our customers.
  • Threat Detection and Response: Partner with the InfoSec team to implement proactive threat detection mechanisms and develop dynamic operational dashboards that provide real-time visibility into application security posture. Your insights will be crucial in identifying and mitigating potential threats before they can impact our business.
  • Access Management and Service Management: Develop and implement fine-grained access controls and optimized service management workflows within the application to deliver suitable authorization and efficient service for all users.
  • Data Analysis and Operations: Perform routine data analysis and execute data operations as required to support business intelligence and decision-making. This may include data cleansing, transformation, and aggregation to extract valuable insights from our application data.
  • Automation and Scripting: Leverage automation techniques and develop custom scripts to streamline data manipulation and analysis, application maintenance tasks, and routine operational activities. This will enhance efficiency, reduce manual effort, and minimize the risk of human error.
  • Documentation and Knowledge Sharing: Develop comprehensive documentation, including management procedures and implementation guides, to support the effective operation and maintenance of our application portfolio.
  • Continuous Learning: Stay abreast of emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in the ever-evolving landscape of enterprise applications and architecture. Your commitment to continuous learning will ensure that Recursion remains at the forefront of innovation.

The Team You'll Join

You will become an integral part of Recursion's expanding IT and Information Security team. Our mission is to securely implement and operate the systems, IT infrastructure, tools, and technologies that empower Recursion to decode biology and conduct groundbreaking experiments at scale. You'll work in close collaboration with your teammates and colleagues across departments to identify the most critical challenges and opportunities, and then chart a course to success.

The Experience You'll Need

  • Effective Communication: Ability to articulate complex technical concepts in clear and concise terms to non-technical audiences, including senior and executive management, as well as internal customers.
  • Hands-On Implementation Experience: 8+ years of proven hands-on experience in implementing Enterprise Technologies, particularly ERP and HRIS systems, Clinical Development systems, and modules such as Finance, Procurement, Inventory Management, Order Management, Payroll, Benefits, Onboarding, Clinical Trial Management, Drug Safety, IVR, and EDC.
  • Extensive Enterprise IT Experience: 12+ years of comprehensive experience in Enterprise IT within mid-size or larger organizations, preferably in the Pharma/BioTech sector.
  • Architectural Frameworks: Familiarity with ITIL, TOGAF, or similar Architecture frameworks, demonstrating a solid understanding of best practices in IT service management and enterprise architecture.

Working Location

This position is based at our office located in Salt Lake City. Please note that for this role, we require employees to spend 100% of their time onsite.

At Recursion, we believe that every employee should be compensated fairly. Based on the skill and level of experience required for this role, the estimated current annual base range for this role is:

  • Developing: $144,000
  • Skilled: $160,000
  • Expert: $176,000

You will also be eligible for bonuses and equity compensation + our comprehensive benefits package for United States based candidates. The range displayed on each job posting reflects target ranges for US new hire salaries and is determined by job, level, and market factors.
