System Engineer – HIL Simulator Developer Engineer

Lilium is on the lookout for an exceptional Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) Developer Engineer to join our vibrant team and help us with the development of the cutting-edge Test Rigs for component, systems an aircraft level testing!

At Lilium you will find a passionate group of innovators who are aiming to revolutionize the aerospace industry as we know it, introducing new concepts and technologies to support the development and certification of an astonishing electrical Vertical Take-off and Landing (eVTOL) aircraft: the Lilium Jet! And as you can imagine, all these new technologies, new components and advanced systems require to be tested in a laboratory before flying the sky: that is exactly why we need your help and expertise! To develop and maintain HIL Test Rigs and also to support their integration with Flight Simulators!

Your Day to Day:

  • Design, develop, and maintain advanced HIL systems for component, system, and aircraft-level verification, integrating with flight simulators.
  • Work with multidisciplinary experts to create Test Rig specifications for HIL development.
  • Develop, validate, and verify HIL simulation environments for various aerospace systems.
  • Support the electrical design of boards and wiring harnesses for HIL setups.
  • Integrate real-time simulation hardware with aircraft components for accurate lab representation.
  • Troubleshoot and debug Test Rigs and flight simulators, resolving potential issues.
  • Collaborate with software and chief engineers to enhance Test Rigs and simulators.
  • Contribute to peripheral software systems to improve simulation usability and operation.
  • Assist in the deployment, maintenance, operation, and demonstration of flight simulators.

Your Profile:

  • A minimum of 5 years in Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) development or flight simulators.
  • Proficient with simulation tools, both hardware and software, with mandatory experience in Simulink. Familiarity with Simulink Real Time and Speedgoat hardware is highly desirable.
  • Proficient in programming, debugging, and profiling in C++ using Microsoft Visual Studio. As well as Python programming.
  • Strong electrical and electronic skills is an advantage and basic design experience with wiring harnesses.
  • Knowledgeable in digital communication protocols (e.g., CAN, CAN FD, Ethernet, SPI, UART, ARINC-429, ARINC-825, Time-Triggered Ethernet).
  • Experience with aerospace systems (flight control, avionics, propulsion, energy systems) is a strong plus. Alternatively, EV experience is also relevant
