We thrive on diversity and creating an inclusive culture, with more than 50 nationalities currently working hard to bring our vision of a sustainable world to life.

Your Role and Your Team:

The novel design of the Lilium Jet brings up unique challenges for our Loads and Aeroelastics Engineers. The Loads and Aeroelastics Engineers are the figurative glue that binds disciplines together, understanding the underlying physics to be able to robustly predict Loads throughout the flight envelope. We are looking for an outstanding Loads and Aeroelastics Engineer to develop methods, calculate loads, test and validate predictions, pragmatically supporting in the certification of the Lilium Jet.

You will report to the Loads, Aeroelastics and Mass Properties Team Lead, deployed into the Flight Mechanics project from the larger Flight and Applied Sciences department. Your day-to-day will see you interacting across the teams, such as Aerodynamics, Modelling and Simulation and Flight Control Laws to ensure a consistent understanding of the Lilium Jet behaviour.

The Flight and Applied Science team uses a mixture of low and high-fidelity calculation, together with optimization methods and physical testing to ensure our aircraft and systems achieve our performance targets. We use state-of-the-art systems to deliver rapid results and encourage innovative thinking to achieve the best solutions, on-time.

Your Day to Day

  • Computation of ground and in-flight limit loads, such as gust and manoeuvre loads for this unique configuration to produce the loads envelope.
  • Conduct operational vibration analysis (turbulence, taxi, engine imbalance), defining the aircraft vibration zoning.
  • Developing ground and flight tests requests to allow for future validation of Loads models:
  • Assisting with Ground Vibration Testing and Structural Coupling Testing.
  • Analysing results, validating and tuning models.
  • Perform linear and non-linear aeroelastic simulations, e.g., flutter, LCO, buffeting, using commercial and in-house developed state-of-the-art methods, to determine the aeroelastic stability.
  • Acting as the Designated Certification Specialist for Loads (Panel 3):
  • Aligning the Loads certification plan internally and externally with the regulatory body.
  • Provide a consistent view on necessary evidence for Safety of Flight clearance, envelope expansion clearance and Type Certificate.
  • Developing and mentoring junior staff members within Loads and Aeroelasticity, and for the wider Flight Sciences team.

Your Profile

  • M.Eng or M.Sc. in Aerospace Engineering or similar degree.
  • 10+ years of professional experience in Loads and Aeroelasticity.
  • Demonstrated experience in supporting the aircraft certification processes and interaction with regulatory bodies is highly desirable.
  • Experience with defining and using ground and flight tests to produce a validated model.
  • Experience in state-of-the-art non-linear aeroelastic simulations.
  • Proficiency in using Nastran, Multibody Dynamics codes (Motion Solve, Adams, etc.) and scripting languages (Python, Matlab).
  • Target-oriented, driven work style with analytic problem-solving skills.
  • Fluent English language skills are essential, fluent German or any other language would be beneficial.
