About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Senior Mechatronics Engineer to join Dexterity’s Hardware Product team. As a Senior Mechatronics Engineer, you will own the design and integration of electro-mechanical systems for robotic automation, ensuring seamless functionality and performance. You will develop low-level drivers, integrate sensors, prototype solutions, and support product installations.
Accountability:
Own the Electro-mechanical systems architecture for robotic automation products.
Own the design and integration of mechanical components, electronic sensors, actuators, and control systems to ensure that all components work together seamlessly and achieve the desired functionality and performance.
Develop low-level drivers to enable hardware components control and communication to achieve the desired behavior of the system.
Responsibilities
Select and integrate appropriate sensors, lidars, encoders, and other HW components to implement simple, scalable, and robust solutions.
Prototype and test Mechanical, Electrical, and Mechatronics solutions to quantify system performance and identify design gaps and potential improvements.
Program microcontrollers, PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), and other control devices to achieve the desired behavior of the system.
Write and maintain design documentation that communicates device design, capabilities, and procedures.
Support the initial product installations at customer facilities, including troubleshooting and training.
Collaboration:
Collaborate with the Mechanical and Electrical engineering counterparts to ensure seamless integration of the Electro-mechanical systems into the product design.
Collaborate with Hardware Test engineers to develop and execute robust testing plans to verify the functionality and performance of the Electro-mechanical systems, analyzing test results to drive continuous improvement.
Collaborate with Manufacturing engineers (internal/external) to ensure accuracy in BOM, define and oversee assembly and testing processes, and troubleshoot any issues to unblock manufacturing.
Work with design partners or ODMs to jointly develop next-generation HW components to optimize the performance and cost of our products.
Requirements:

10 or more years of related work experience including a track record of taking a product from conception to volume manufacturing.
Experience and deep understanding of the concept of operation of motors, servo drivers, sensors, robot arms, and controllers.
Experience with common industrial automation communication protocols such as EtherCAT, TwinCAT, and CANBUS.
Experience in developing low-level drivers for hardware peripherals using Python, C, and C++.
Experience with industrial automation devices such as functional safety modules, safety sensors, and PLCs, programming in IEC 61131-3 languages Including ST, FBD, and LD.
Experience with lab test instruments such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, DC loads, power supplies, spectrum analyzers, etc.
Experience using 3D CAD and eCAD tools for designing electro-mechanical systems.
Experience in troubleshooting control systems, PCBAs, and electrical system issues.
Familiar with Hardware Product Life Cycle stages and product lifecycle management tools and processes from concept to volume manufacturing.
Familiar with using a PLM system (Arena, Agile, Teamcenter) for the development life cycle on a day-to-day basis.
Experience working with engineering off-shore subcontractors, vendors, and global contract manufacturers.
Strong technical writing skills and ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical functions.
Able to work on multiple projects and global engineering teams concurrently with great attention to detail.
